What is a Discovery Tour?
Every Expat Explore tour starts somewhere.
Before a new destination becomes part of our programme, we travel the route, fine-tune the itinerary and invite a group of our most loyal travellers to experience it first.
Discovery Tours are our inaugural departures. Because they're the first, they're offered at a lower price than future departures, and your feedback helps shape the tour for everyone who follows.
Our Last Discovery: Morocco
In May 2024, Morocco became our latest Discovery Tour, with co-founder Jakes Maritz joining the first group of travellers to experience the destination.
From the colourful streets of the Imperial Cities to the Sahara Desert at sunset, the tour introduced travellers to the sights, flavours and traditions that make Morocco worth going back for.
That first departure laid the foundation for Highlights of Morocco, giving future travellers the chance to experience the route shaped by that first group.
Discovering Japan
In September 2022, Carl Cronje and Jakes Maritz joined a group of travellers on our very first Discovery Tour to Japan, making us one of the first tour operators to return after the pandemic.
That first group helped shape what would become Highlights of Japan, now a permanent part of our programme. Today, travellers from around the world can experience the same unforgettable mix of ancient temples, modern cities, incredible cuisine and time-honoured traditions that made Japan such a memorable Discovery Tour.
