The Jungfraujoch has been voted the number one optional excursion on all Expat Explore Tours.
The majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains are some of the highest peaks in Switzerland, also featuring the highest railway station in Europe at an elevation of 3454 meters. The brilliantly engineered cogwheel railroad winds through the valleys and up mountains stopping at the Eigerwand and Eismeer stations. Here, you can marvel at the jaw-dropping views of glaciers, rocky mountains, snow, ice and if you're lucky the bluest of skies (remember to take your sunglasses!).
Once at the top, you can stand inside the Sphinx Observatory or on the Plateau to appreciate a truly exhilarating 360-degree panorama view of this Alpine wonderland. There's a variety of activities to take part in like sledding and skiing, visiting the ice palace or tasting some of the finest Swiss chocolate. Take a deep breath, the air filling your lungs is of the purest in the world! Welcome to Switzerland.
The hotel is owned and managed by Carl Cronje, co-founder of Expat Explore. As a frequent traveller to the Jungfrau region for over a decade, Carl and his partner Ryan fell in love with the beauty of the Alps. When the hotel came up for sale in the summer of 2014, they grabbed the opportunity to bring the magic of this European winter wonderland to Expat Explore's range of current holiday packages.
Carl and Ryan took it upon themselves to personally oversee the refurbishment and renovation of the hotel as it was transformed into the Alpenrose Hotel & Gardens. The beautiful gardens around the hotel were landscaped by Carl with plants all the way from Tuscany. Meat, dairy and other fresh produce served in the Alpenrose are sourced from local butcheries, dairies and farms in and around Wilderswil.
