Slovakia travel & guided tours
Slovakia is officially known as the Slovak Republic and was part of Czechoslovakia until 1993. Bordered by the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary, it truly lies at the heart of Europe. In fact, in Kremnické Bane you can find a stone next to the church of St. John the Baptist that marks the geographical centre of Europe.
The capital, Bratislava, is on the banks of the River Danube and River Morava, and is unique in that it is the only country in the world which borders two independent countries; Austria and Hungary. From the 16th to 18th centuries it was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, a territory of the Habsburg Monarchy.
Things to do on Slovakia holidays
Bratislava is much older than the more famous Prague and Budapest, and the compact medieval inner city is a network of narrow, winding streets, lined with pastel coloured buildings, old churches and inviting cafés. The iconic hilltop castle overlooks the Danube and dominates the rest of the city.
