DAY 13: Petra - Wadi Rum

After breakfast, get ready to explore Petra, Jordan’s most famous attraction as well as one of the 7 New Wonders of the World! Start this visit to the Red Rose City with a horse ride through the canyon (Petra Seeq) to reach the Treasury Al Khazneh. Petra was built by the Arab Nabateans more than 2000 years ago making this ancient site one of the oldest cities in the world! In the afternoon stop for lunch before heading to Wadi Rum. Here, explore the area’s spectacular mountains, Lawrence of Arabia’s cave and Lawrence’s dunes. Then, transfer to the Bedouin camp area and get ready for a night of camping under the stars in the Wadi Rum desert!

Experiences

Tour the famous Red Rose City of Petra: Embark on a guided tour of Petra with free time. Back in 300 BC, Petra was the capital of the prosperous Nabatean Kingdom. Swiss explorer Jean Louis Burckhardt famously wrote about it in his diary. “It's one of the most elegant remains of antiquity existing.” He penned this when he discovered the site in 1812. It's easy to see why - Petra is simply breathtaking. It is also known as the 'Red Rose City' due to the colour of the stone from which it was carved. However, the site is best known for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.

Sleep in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum: Sleep under the stars and experience the magic of the Wadi Rum desert with a night in a private, Bedouin-style camp. The nomadic tribes and clans of the Middle Eastern deserts are known as Bedouins. It’s in this very desert where Lawrence of Arabia fought alongside the Bedouins against the Ottoman Empire during WWI.

DAY 14: Wadi Rum - Madaba - Mt. Nebo - Dead Sea - Amman

Enjoy an early breakfast at the camp. Then, drive to the ancient town of Madaba, known for its 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. Next, drive to Mount Nebo, an elevated ridge of the Abarim in Jordan, approximately 710 metres above sea level. It is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. After exploring Mount Nebo, head to the famous Dead Sea for lunch, a swim (or float!) and time to relax by these iconic, salty waters. At the end of the day, return to Amman for dinner. Overnight at your hotel.

Experiences

Explore Mount Nebo: According to the Old Testament, Mount Nebo is where Moses lived out his final days and saw the promised land. For this reason, Mount Nebo is a religious site of great importance. It also acts as a fantastic viewing platform from which to gain sweeping views of the Dead Sea and even Jerusalem on a clear day!

Step into the Dead Sea: The Dead Sea is actually not a sea at all, but a lake, around 30% of which is made up with salt. It is also the lowest place on earth, at 417 feet below sea level. The water's properties are said to cure various skin conditions. It may also relieve respiratory ailments. The lake's mud is used in spa treatments at the hotels along its shore. Please note: Entrance fee applies.

Pyramids and Temples and Sand Dunes, oh my!
For our 6th tour with Expat Explore, we choose the wonderful world of Egypt & Jordan. Jewel, with 5 star Nile Boat Cruise tour. And were we glad we did. What a fantastic tour guided by "Peter" in Egypt and "Rami" in Jordan. Expat looked after us from the flight to flight and all moments in between. This well designed tour was full of legendary landmarks and fascinating history checking off several bucket-list items with panache and grandeur. All attractions included were beyond expectation. Of the available optional, we chose the Sights of Alexandria and the Abu Simbel tour. Both are not-to-be-missed. We also took the Hot Air Balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings and the Submarine ride to the Red Sea Coral Reef off of Hurghada. All great fun with amazing views. On our Cairo free day we went to the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), itself an architectural marvel containing many archaeological exhibits and media displays. But the most striking attraction showcases massive statue

An experience of a lifetime!
This tour exceeded our expectations. Both tour guides, Peter in Egypt and Ahmed in Jordan, were extremely knowledgeable about the history of their homeland. The customer service as well as our accommodations/food were the best we have had on any tour we have taken. It was a definite plus being met at the airports and transferred. We had so much fun with our group! Lots of walking, so people need to be aware of this when booking....great itinerary with varied experiences!
