180,000+ Happy Travellers
After 21 years of building tours all over the world, Japan is still the destination that excites me most. And this pick is personal. I designed this itinerary to capture the contrast that makes Japan so special, from the energy of Tokyo to the calm of Kyoto's temples. It's carefully paced, flows naturally, and gives you time to experience Japan rather than rush through it. It's one of my personal favourites and my proudest creation. I promise it's a trip you'll never forget.

When to Travel
Cherry blossom season from late March to April is the standout, autumn brings incredible colours, and summer brings festivals and energy. There really isn't a bad time to visit Japan; it just depends on what kind of weather and experience you're after.
Local Flavours
One of the real joys of travelling in Japan is how accessible great food is. The izakayas are a brilliant way to try lots of different flavours (casual Japanese pubs where you order small dishes and share them). From karaage chicken and ramen to takoyaki, meat skewers, and sweet treats, there's something for every taste.
Insider Advice
Japan is incredibly safe and easy to get around, so don't be afraid to explore. Spend time wandering Tokyo's different neighbourhoods, try the food, and get a feel for the pace of the city. Carry some cash, and try to emulate the way Japanese people live and act for the best experience.
Must-Do Experiences
The Iga Ninja Museum is a fascinating experience: Japan's ninja history, skills, and weaponry, topped off with a live demonstration of their famous stealth techniques. The Kihaya Sumo Museum is another highlight, where you learn about sumo traditions and even don a costume and step into the ring.
