Finding the right multi-country Europe itinerary for you

The most important question before you look at any itinerary is simple: how much time do you have? Most travellers have a fixed window they have to work with.

So, we’ve picked three of our most popular multi-country tours — 14, 18, and 22 days — and laid them side by side, so you can see exactly where the extra time takes you.

Two weeks gets you eight countries across Western Europe’s most iconic destinations. Plus, the cities, the landmarks, and the food on your bucket list.

If you have eighteen days, it opens up Spain, the French Riviera and Monaco. At 22 days, Central and Eastern Europe comes into reach: Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Ljubljana, and Zagreb.

Free days are included in all the tours to give you the chance to go back to the neighbourhood you really loved, find the restaurant your tour leader mentioned, or simply sit somewhere and let the city sink in properly.

Travelling Between Countries in Europe

Many European countries are relatively small, and travelling between them is quick and seamless. In the Schengen Area, for example, many nationalities don’t need visas to travel across multiple countries, making multi-country travel even easier. In fact, in some cases, it’s even possible to visit more than one country in a single day.

FAQs

I only have two weeks. Is that enough for a multi-country Europe tour?

Absolutely. The Classic Europe tour covers 8 countries in 14 days, including England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium, with free days in Paris, the Swiss Alps and Rome.

Which of the tours includes Eastern Europe?

Classic Europe covers iconic destinations in Western Europe and includes some Central European countries, such as Switzerland and Germany.

Meanwhile, the Europe Explorer covers Western Europe, with some more of Central Europe, including Spain, Monaco and the French Riviera, but not Eastern Europe.

Lastly, the Taste of Europe covers highlights of Western, Central, including Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Venice, Berlin, Florence, Luxembourg and Belgium. It then ventures east to Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Zagreb. So, if these Eastern European destinations are on your wish list, the 22-day tour is the only itinerary that gets you there in a single trip.

Can I do just part of the longer tours?

Yes, both the Europe Explorer and Best of Europe are available as two separate legs that can be booked independently. The Explorer splits into an 11-day first leg and a 10-day second leg. The Best of Europe splits into a 10-day first leg and an 11-day second leg. You can also combine both legs for the full trip.

Are flights to the start point included?

No, you arrange your own flights to the starting city: London for Classic Europe and Best of Europe, Amsterdam for Europe Explorer, making it easy to choose the flights that suit you best. Then, once you’ve joined up with the tour, all transport from that point onwards is handled by your tour leader.

What’s included in the tour price?

All tours include accommodation in 3 and 4-star hotels with private bathrooms, transport by air-conditioned coach and your experienced tour leader throughout. Specific included experiences are also detailed for each tour, with further optional experiences offered to tailor the tour to your own tastes. Meals are detailed in the comparison table. Flights, visas and travel insurance are not included.

Which countries are in the Schengen Area?

The Schengen Area covers 29 countries with no internal border controls, making multi-country travel significantly easier. Most of Western, Central and Northern Europe is included. Not all EU members are Schengen members, and some non-EU countries are. Check with your local embassy for visa requirements based on your nationality.

What level of fitness do I need?

Walking tours can last up to three hours, and some sites involve stairs or uneven surfaces. You should be comfortable walking for extended periods and carrying your own luggage.

What is the average age of travellers?

Groups span a wide range, from young adults to retirees. A positive attitude and an open mind matter far more than a number.

Is travel insurance compulsory?

Yes, and you are responsible for arranging your own cover before departure. Your policy should cover medical expenses, cancellation and loss of belongings with no exclusion clauses for the activities on your tour. For a quote from our preferred partner, visit World Nomads.*

You can change your departure date or even your tour without penalty up to 60 days before departure, should you need to. Terms and conditions apply.

How do I get visa support documents?

For travellers who require a visa, email info@expatexplore.com and request your visa support documents once your tour is paid in full. Allow up to 10 working days.
